No, Really, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Nothing lasts forever. We all know that. But we are constantly surprised when something that was once spectacular falls totally from grace.
Remember one of the original smartphone creators, Blackberry? It was a killer and was, for a time, the leader in the smartphone world.
In 2011 BlackBerry’s sales peaked at over 52 million units.
And then, as the iPhone and Android sales gained ground, BlackBerry’s sales fell off dramatically.
Why?
While there are several reasons, the main ones are by the creation of better hardware, and the key reasons were better software and the apps that are now omnipresent for both the iPhone and Android phones and other devices.
BlackBerry’s attempts to remain relevant simply never worked.
In Q4 of 2016 a less than memorable milestone was hit by BlackBerry – a 0.0% share of the smartphone market, according to the research firm Gartner.
Here’s the chart, from Gartner and tech research firm Recode, showing the sales falling off the cliff, down to basically ZERO now.
